The other night, I felt
a bit peckish and decided to bake some cupcakes. With it being Bonfire night, I
thought it would be nice to make bonfire night cupcakes. These cupcakes pretty
much consist of a chocolate cupcake with a flame and planks of wood for the
topping/decoration.
Cupcake Ingredients
100g Plain Flour
20g Cocoa Powder
140g Caster Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
40g Unsalted Butter (at room temperature)
120ml Whole Milk
1 Egg
Zest of One Orange
Orange Extract
Zest of One Orange
Orange Extract
1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
12 Hole Cupcake Tray
12 Paper Cases
Cupcake
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 170C(325F) Gas 3
2. Mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar,
baking powder,
salt and butter either with an electric whisk, handheld whisk or wooden spoon
until you have a smooth, combined consistency.
3. Whisk
the milk, egg, orange zest, orange extract and
vanilla extract together
in a jug and then slowly pour the mixture into the flour then beat it together until
the mixture is smooth.
4. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until
two-thirds full and bake in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the
sponge bounces back when touched. A skewer inserted in the center should come
out clean.
5. Leave the cupcakes to cool slightly in the
tray before turning out onto a wire cooling rack to cool completely before
decorating.
Decorating Ingredients
300g Icing Sugar
4 or 5 Cadbury Flakes
150g Softened Unsalted Butter
Orange extract
Orange Food Colouring
Piping Bag & Nozzle
Decorating Instructions
1. Beat together the icing sugar and butter together until
smooth. Add half a teaspoon of orange food colouring and half a teaspoon of orange
extract.
2. Break up your flakes in to a bowl.
3. Put a small bit of icing on to each cupcake for the
flakes to adhere to.
4. Arrange your flakes as desired on each cupcake to
create a bonfire appearance.
And there you have it, Bonfire Night Cupcakes! Enjoy Bonfire Night & Your Cupcakes!
