HAIR CARE STAPLES

When it comes to my hair, it's been round the bend and back. I've done so much to it that I can just about remember; it's been hot combed, permanently straightened, dyed and singed, so as you can see a lot has been done it it. As I previously mentioned, my hair has been permanently straightened, which is bad enough, but I then have to get my roots done every 6-8 weeks. I dyed my hair black cherry (a brown/red colour) which some of it then got bleached ginger/blondish by the Cuban sun (I know there's only one sun). So my hair is not in the best condition. I'm most definitely not the wash and go type of girl, my hair is very high maintenance as it's not a suitable length to just be 'left'. Most of the time I just chuck my hair into a doughnut for efficiency, however sometimes, I also like to have a change(indecisiveness kicks in...) in which I then straighten my hair. I have a routine for my hair which I comply to all the time without fail, for the sake of society.

As hair straighteners go, I always look for one that has a high temperature for my thick hair and ceramic plates. This one in particular, takes it one step further in the sense that they have tourmaline ceramic plates which are supposed to be better for your hair, releasing more negative ions...(science lesson over). The BigEgo straighteners come in a cool, sleek ombred bi-folding box. The straighteners are really slim, sleek and lightweight which comes in handy when straightening hair for a relatively long time as my arms do not hurt as much as normal. The highest temperature setting for these is 220* which is hot enough for my hair. I find that when using these straighteners, my hair doesn't look as dry/unhealthy but more sleek and shiny. Whether I want pretty loose curls or just a normal straighten, the results are always amazing. The versatility is endless. I would definitely recommend these to anyone on the hunt for some new, great quality straighteners. I might even have to buy some for my mum since she keeps on pinching mine!

As you can probably gather, with all the straightening, dying and permanently straightening, my hair is pretty damaged. After I've washed my hair, I always without fail smother my hair in the KeraCare Silken Seal prior to blow-drying because my hair is singed and needs all the protection that it can get. After I've applied this and blow-dried my hair, it instantly feels a lot softer and nourished and ready to be straightened. Depending on the amount that it applied, determines the greasiness at the end. As I put a lot in, it has a greasy-ish finish which is great for my type of hair (not so great for others) as I naturally have Afro-Caribbean hair which is more on the dry side.

With my hair being more on the dry side, I always apply this after my hair has been blow-dried as it has a lovely scent and helps also softens and nourishes my hair but to a different level as to the Keracare. It also assists my hair with the whole frizz situation and protects my hair for when I straighten it. I tend to apply it and then get the hairdryer out again for it to melt into my hair from the heat and then straighten it. If I feel the need to apply more once it has been straightened, then so be it. Anything to help tame my hair!
